Bismarck Doll Friends was established in September 2004.  In March, 2006 the club became a chapter of the United Federation of Doll Clubs with the goal of being the foremost in research, education, conservation, collecting and appreciation of dolls.

Our vision is to provide education, service and conservation; to encourage collecting, research, creativity, cooperation, respect, integrity, innovation, volunteerism and personal growth; to sustain friendship, communication, interaction, compassion and enjoyment.  With the dedication of our volunteers working together, we preserve yesterday and today for tomorrow.

 BISMARCK DOLL FRIENDS

hosted a luncheon on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at the Bismarck Doublewood Inn.

The theme for the event was "Puttin' on the GLITZ" Vintage Glamour and Fashion Dolls.

The 1950’s saw major changes in the way Americans lived and dressed. The austere days of the Great Depression and the end of World War II made way for a new affluence and a new consumerism. Christian Dior launched his glamourous New Look in 1950. Skirts now required yards and yards of fabrics, and furs, hats, and gloves were in style.

Not only was fashion changing, but children’s toys and dolls, as well. The plastics that had been developed in the war years created virtually indestructible playthings. By 1955, there was a huge population of preteens; eager to grow up and wear the lovely clothes they saw in movies and on TV. The popular teenage fashion dolls of the 1950’s began with Madame Alexander’s Cissy. These dolls reflected the glamourous and varied fashions of the times, and they even wore high-heeled shoes. Their extensive wardrobes included clothes made of the new nylons and synthetic blends. Accessories were the norm. The 1950’s fashion doll is a reminder of a simpler, but most glamourous period.

The luncheon included a display of vintage dolls, door prizes and a reproduction 1950's Cissette doll, trunk and wardrobe as the grand prize
